The pursuit of research, development, commercialization, and innovation in mineral resources can serve to optimize their utilization and value, while also fostering product diversification. In addition to reducing dependence on imported minerals, R&D&C&I results can establish Malaysia as a leading producer and supplier of mineral-based products. JMG is currently intensifying its efforts to elevate the Mineral Research Centre (PPM) as a distinguished hub for mineral research, development, and innovation in the country.
The Mineral Research Centre (PPM) is the research and development (R&D) arm of Malaysia's Department of Mineral and Geoscience (JMG). PPM conducts R&D projects related to clay-based, silica-based, rock-based and advanced material technologies. To intensify the cause of sustainable mineral production, JMG is also committed to conducting research and development in the areas of mineral processing, mining, quarrying, and the restoration of mines and quarries technologies. The primary focus of PPM's research and development (R&D) is to enhance the commodity value of products using local mineral resources.
The commercialization of PPM’s research findings is a crucial element in advancing national development goals through income generation. Several research projects by PPM have been registered as intellectual properties by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO). Moreover, PPM actively participates in a variety of innovation competitions such as MTE, InSIDE, VIC, and AIINEX. These competitions serve as a platform to showcase the results of the research and innovation conducted while evaluating their effectiveness and impact. PPM also provides MS ISO 9001:2015 certified services for Dimension Stone and Mineral Processing Testing (Tin Ore/ Iron Ore/ Gold Ore/ Silica Sand). PPM engages in technical cooperation and forges strategic partnerships with industry, agencies, and Higher Education Institutions to further the development of mineral research.
